This one truly qualifies for a middle-of-nowhere hashtag. Woomera is a five-and-a-half hour drive north of Adelaide. It is a tiny township set up in the 1950s to facilitate the nuclear bomb and missile tests the English and Australian governments were conducting at the time. One legacy of the tests is the spent missiles and redundant launch equipment. Some of this material is now on display in the Rocket Park, along with a couple of aircraft. Also here is the Woomera History Museum, a very well laid out and presented museum detailing some of the testing and space launches that have occurred there over the years.
