Another middle-of-nowhere tale this one with the QANTAS Founders Museum in Longreach. Longreach is very appropriately named! A friend and I took a road trip from Port Douglas inland specially to vist Longreach and other towns, ending up on the Gold Coast. It was a looooong drive! The museum is not officially a QANTAS entity. they certainly do help financially and with the supply of airframes, memorabilia, documents, etc., but it is a not-for-profit organisation that runs the show and most of the workers are volunteers. The museum itself is brilliant. There are a dozen aircraft on display from replicas of the firtst QANTAS machines right through to a Jumbo. You can go through the 707, Constellation and 747, and you can even do a wing walk on the Jumbo with a guided tour. If you have any interest in early Australian aviation, this one is a must see.
