The Icelandic Aviation Museum is full of fascinating displays detailing the harsh reality of Iceland's aviation history, where roads are impassable during the winter months and aircraft are relied on for delivery of essentials and for emergencies. The aircraft on show are all in exceptional condition, with a few kept in their in-use state to show the kind of beating aircraft take in harsh environments. Of particular interest to me was the Aerospatiale Dauphin II helo that had its Fenestron tail rotor destroyed by an errant spanner after maintenance. Presumably the damage was catastrophic enough for the quite new airframe to be deemed beyond economic repair!
