On a recent family holiday to Italy my daughter, who is aware of my helo-affliction, said one morning "Daddy, there's a helicopter outside the hotel!" I thought she was having me on - but sure enough, there was an MD500 in the piazza outside! How did that get there without me hearing it? Me, who can hear a chopper before even Radar O'Reilly! Damn you, double glazing!
Anyway, it was there as a backdrop to a ceremony of some sort. It was surrounded by men in dark suits and ear pieces. The Guardia Finanza is one of several Italian police forces. They are something to do with taxation. There is also the Carabinieri (Military Police), Polizia (normal police), highway police (Strada-something I think) as well as the Pretezione Civile and Vigili del Fuoco and possibly others.
